Nokia 9 PureView to launch at MWC 2019: Expected price in India, design and specs

The Nokia 9 PureView is expected to launch at MWC 2019 on February 24. From the penta-camera system to a 4,150mAh battery with fast charging support, here's everything we know about the Nokia flagship.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Nokia 9 PureView is on course to becoming the world's first smartphone with five rear cameras
  • The Nokia 9 PureView could launch in India with a price tag close to Rs 60,000
  • The flagship is expected to come with an in-display fingerprint sensor and wireless charging support
HMD Global will be present at MWC 2019 in February and is planning to host event on February 24. If it is anything like last year, you can expect the company to announce a slew of phones that will slot in various price brackets, from feature phone to high-end. Apart from the Nokia 9 PureView, the only other phone we have heard of is the Nokia 6.2 with a hole-punch display. But the main attraction will be the highly rumoured Nokia 9 PureView, which is still on course to become the world's first smartphone with five rear cameras.
The Nokia 9 PureView has been subjected to tons of rumours and speculations from the design to the hardware. We even saw a leaked promo video late last month that confirmed a lot of key details, assuming the video was the real deal. The Nokia flagship has been delayed quite a bit, but it is almost certain now that it will be unveiled at MWC 2019 as some official posters have suggested. Ahead of its launch, here's a quick rundown of everything we know about the Nokia 9 PureView.

Nokia 9 PureView expected price in India

As a flagship smartphone, the Nokia 9 PureView will come with a premium price tag. That being said, the phone may not cost as much as an iPhone XS or Galaxy S10. According to a leak by Nokia_Leaks on Twitter, the Nokia 9 PureView's European pricing will be set around EUR 749 or EUR 799 depending on the market. This puts it roughly in the Rs 60,000 bracket in India, although you can expect the company to price the device more competitively in the country, if the flagship reaches the Indian market.
The leaked pricing is, in fact, similar to what the Nokia 8 Sirocco was priced in Europe. To recall, the Nokia 8 Sirocco was launched in India last year at Rs 49,999, so there is a good chance the Nokia 9 PureView will come to India with a similar or slightly higher price tag.

Nokia 9 PureView design and specifications

The Nokia 9 PureView will come with a premium design language that will include a glass and metal design. Based on the renders and promo videos so far, the glass back panel will curve around the edges to offer a comfortable grip and a seamless design. We also believe that there will be no physical fingerprint sensor on board and HMD will be going with an in-display fingerprint sensor instead.
The biggest attraction on the rear panel will be the penta-camera system that is set up like a pistol revolver. A total of seven cutouts will be seen on the back that are for five camera sensors, an LED flash and a proximity sensor, according to past reports.
While there is still no word on what sensors HMD is going with, a leaked promo video confirmed a few interesting features about the cameras such as the ability to take 5 simultaneous shots and allowing up to 10x more light, suggesting good low-light photography. The cameras will also offer "stunning crisp HDR photography." The video also highlights the ability to re-focus post capture within Google Photos.
Interestingly, it seems HMD Global will not be going with a waterdrop display or a hole punch display with the Nokia 9 PureView. Instead, the flagship will get a typical 18:9 display with even bezels on the top and bottom, as per renders and the promo video. The Nokia 9 PureView will sport a 5.99-inch 2K display with HMD's PureDisplay screen technology. The PureDisplay will offer high contrast and HDR10 support as well as the ability to upscale SDR content to HDR content.
Under the hood, the Nokia 9 PureView will likely come with a Snapdragon 845 chipset and not Qualcomm's next-gen Snapdragon 855 processor. This wouldn't be surprising considering the Nokia 8 Sirocco was launched at MWC last year with a Snapdragon 835 chip instead of a Snapdragon 845 SoC. The Nokia 9 PureView will also come with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There may be an 8GB + 256GB configuration on the cards as well.
As for the software, the Nokia 9 PureView will launch with Android Pie. Like most Nokia phones, the Nokia 9 PureView will be part of the Android One program, which means you can expect a stock, clean Android interface with a promise of timely security updates.
Lastly, the Nokia 9 PureView is said to house a 4,150mAh battery, which is pretty big compared to what most Nokia smartphones have offered last year. The phone recently got certified by China's 3C certification agency where it was also revealed that the Nokia 9 PureView will support up to 18W fast charging.
